Stainer violin

Submitted by admin on Tue, 02/12/2008 - 17:41.

Inside the violin is a stamp that reads Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 1765.  Like a Strad copy is a copy of a Stradivarius this is a copy of an original Stainer.

As with any violin there are some plusses and minuses for this violin.  On the plus side, this is a very nice violin with no cracks and no damage. It has a very nice sound. However, an overzealous person had a nice idea on how to refinish it. It was a nice attempt but the result could have been more visually esthetic.

The reality for this violin is that it is a very playable violin for a nice price because this was done to it.  If that someone had left the work to a more experienced luthier, this would have been a much more beautiful but a much more expensive violin.
