Italian violin

Submitted by admin on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 19:39.

This violin is approximately 100 years old.  This is shown in the wood it is made with and how it was made.  The only identification on it is the MADE IN ITALY engraved into the neck.  This is a bit odd in that it would be unusual for an Italian maker to put such a statement on a violin in English.  So I would not take it as gospel that this violin was made in Italy.  However, the dating of its construction is valid.

There is one other identifying mark inside of the violin.  It is a five pointed star with a B facing the wrong way and a B facing the correct way inside of it.  We do not know what this means or who may have used this to identify their work.

You can see that our luthiery cleaned it up and put all new working parts on this violin.  You can see the upscale set of matching pegs, chin rest and tail piece to improve the visual appeal of this violin.  There were no cracks and this is the original varnish.  It was cleaned and polished.

SOLD to a violin collector in southern California.
