Amatus 1614 - violin for sale

Submitted by admin on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 18:14.

Inside of the violin is a label that says Nicolaus Amatus fecit in Cremona 1614.  The same story applies to this violin as to all of the Strad Faciebat copies.  It was made in a German cottage factory around the turn of the century.  Mario was quite consistent in spotting quality violins. The wood is nice German maple and spruce. The only difference is that this is a copy of Amatus violin construction techniques and specifications. With the differences in construction, there is a difference in sound and that just makes sence.

Our luthiery had to glue the body, refit the pegs, reshape the bridge and build a new nut.  The sound post was replaced as the old one was knocked down to prevent sound post cracks during shipment via air cargo.  It has a few marks but is very nice considering that it is over 100 years old.

This violin would be for a young student in a youth orchestra or a mature violinist who wants a violin to play every day.
